Pierre Carrier Balleuse, Young Ballerina Holding Black Cat
PIERRE CARRIER-BELLEUSE (1851-1931) studied at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts and made his debut at the Salon in 1875. The son of the pre-eminent sculptor Albert Carrier-Belleuse, Pierre showed promise from a young age. He was as adept in the medium of pastels (a very difficult medium to master), as he was with oils. In 1877 he received Honorable Mention for his work, and in 1899 he received a Silver Medal at the Exposition Universelle.
